Names From The Past

Where are these ex-Sewerby players now?

Does anyone remember Gavin Raper?
John Alden - please email us again as Paul Hebden wants to get in touch
(I lost your address when my PC crashed!)
Gavin Raper - contacted me in January 06  -  Dear Steve, Came across your site browsing Google during the lunch break ! Congratulations its great. I played my first game for Sewerby in1956 at the tender age of eleven and from then was a regular team member until around 1966 when after university I moved away to work. Whilst a Sewerby player we lived at Danes Dyke Farm which is now derilict in the middle of the golf course the council decided to build on the farm land. My father, Brian Raper ( now deceased ) was once club captain. Good to see the ground looking so neat and tidy. Even when I played it was a luxery compared to most of the pitches we played on at Grindle, Bempton etc where most likely you were on a strip cut out of the middle of a cow meadow with the unavoidable cow pats. The green stains on your whites did not come from the grass!! Would be interested to know if you have any contacts from other players from my time. I now live in Derby but work in Geneva Switzerland. Best regards            Gavin Raper

Paul Hebden - Contacted me recently through the website - now playing for Ebberston (just for fun!) - lives in Hunmanby

Larry Tyler - Larry has just recently contacted me:

I have just seen your website and would like to give a little information, for you to pass on to anyone who cares to look up Sewerby C.C.I am now retired from work,I do however still spend a lot of time in my allotments.I have also swapped dabbling in metal for dabbling in wood, giving my daughter's partner a hand with his joinery business, making verandas for caravans. so if anyone out there is looking for a supurb pine veranda, the man to reach is at Top Decks.I keep telling Joan that I will have to pop up to the Ship one of these Friday nights , to see if any of you still spend some time there.I reckon Sewerby could give the present England team a run for their money.I told Joan not to chuck me boots out. see you sometime.
Cheers. Larry Tyler.

John Alden - John has just recently contacted me -

I am living in Derbyshire and, during the summer, play regularly for Belper Meadows 2nd XI as wicket - keeper / batsman. We run four Saturday teams in
the Derbyshire County Cricket League and the 1st XI is just below county 2nd XI level. I work for a large national engineering company, based in
Birmingham, and very occasionally bump into Richard Blythe. It is good, and in some cases surprising, to note that many of my former fellow players are
still playing or otherwise involved but what became of such luminaries as Larry Tyler, Julian Traves, Mark Gummerson, Pete Baxter and Richard 'Tricky
Dicky' Bapty?
Please pass on my regards to all who remember me and good luck for the coming season. I do get home now and again so, who knows, I may even get
along to see some of you.
Bye for now,
John Alden.
